Bright Lights

As part of my photo class, we are allowed to go on "field trips." We shot in the dark with 15-30 second shutter speeds which for those who don't speak photo nerd, is a slow shutter speed. We did this is in order to capture the lights of the city skyline.

Quick photo lesson: The slower your shutter speed, the more light there is in your picture. The downside to this is, that if you use a slower shutter speed you blur motion.

The purpose of the assignment was to shoot according to our histograms, not according to how things appear on our display screens. A histogram is a graph that depicts the highlights, midtones and shadows of a photo. We were striving for the "perfect histogram."

The following photos are unedited, except for the watermark. :D

Life :: Jr. Miss Alberta Job's Daughters

Tori, nicknamed Bumblebee for her love for all things yellow and black, is the current Junior Miss Alberta Job's Daughters. She has spent the last twelve months serving as a representative of Job's Daughters for the province of Alberta, specifically its younger members.

Job's Daughters is a youth group for girls between the ages of 10-20 years old, who are related to Masons. (Think of the philanthropic group called Shriners. The men who are known for their Shriner's Circus and Shriner's Hospitals.) Tori competed in a Pageant last March to represent the organization.

Job's Daughters teaches its members many useful skills like public speaking and memorization. Each member has their own responsibilities. The members run their own meetings twice a month, and they are conducted in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order. Honestly I've seen these girls run their meetings better than some corporate meetings. :p

Congratulations to Tori on her year as Jr. Miss AB Job's Daughters!

In other related news, I am very excited to say that photos from my session with Miss British Columbia Job's Daughters Melissa Sadeh will be used for the upcoming 2011 Miss BCJD Pageant!

Event :: Entreprenurial Mom's Winter Gala Photo Booth

I just wanted to do a short write up about working the photobooth at the Entreprenurial Mom's Winter Gala! I was asked by Candy Consulting to photograph guests at the party. It was a great learning experience for me and a fun oppertunity to work with Calgary actress Briana Lowe, who was costumed as the theme of the evening, Avatar!

Baby :: Keely

Blog Post #2 about Keely's photo session from this weekend. Keely had several wardrobe changes and even though she didn't like some of them, she was a good sport. Happy Birthday Keely!

Cake Smash

Ever since I started photographing babies I have been dying to try a cake smash! Well, the oppertunity finally presented itself with this adorable baby girl who just happened to be celebrating her first birthday. Her mommy made a very adorable cake with white, pink and yellow fondant and white icing. This will be the first of two blog posts about her two hour session!

Sharing some cake with her best buddy Oscar the pug!

Too cute for words.

"Here! It's delicious!"

Yummy!

Nom nom nom nom

She was such a tidy baby, she nibbled discreetly.

Oh what? I got some in my hair?

Smashy smashy!

Whaaaat?

The end.

Photo Project : At work

As one of my photo projects for school I had to take 100 random photos using techniques discussed in class. I took about 25 photos at home before I realized I needed to get out somewhere. Since I don't use client photos for school, I was at a bit of a loss off of the top of my head. The only problem with this is that I don't have a lot of time for anything other than work and photo lately...so I brought my camera to work!
